Making sure your MIPIM doesn’t end in Cannes
Successful MIPIM goers don't just have a plan for the week, they have a plan for what comes after. Conversations on the Croisette, introductions over yoga on the beach, and sundowners at a rooftop event: these moments are you planting the seeds and what you do when you get home determines whether they grow into something more.
Read on for ways you can maximise what you do at MIPIM for maximum impact once the event is over and you are back at the office.
Capture everything and follow up
You will meet a lot of people and by day three conversations start to blur. So develop a habit, whatever works for you, that helps you remember them. Write on the back of a business card, use your notes app, leave yourself a voice memo – any kind of hook to jog your memory when you’re back home staring at a stack of business cards. And for those you only briefly cross paths with, find them on LinkedIn and send a short message. Great to meet you briefly, let’s do it again etc. Keep it simple.
Market yourself
Learn how to tell your story quickly and clearly. A short summary of your business, tailored to different audiences, can make the difference between a conversation that leads somewhere and one that doesn’t.
Meetings are brief and attention is divided, so you need to go in with a plan of what you want to say but importantly you need to make what you say relevant to the person you’re meeting. Don’t spend the whole time explaining what you do, make them understand why it matters to them.
Getting this right will also help to make you more memorable when you’re back from Cannes too.
The real work starts when you land home
Don’t fall at the last hurdle – this is the crucial bit that some people underinvest in. You’ve spent time, money, and energy getting to MIPIM, and then… nothing.
Don’t let that happen. Within 48 hours of getting home, make the time to go through your notes, cards, and connections from the week. Prioritise them and follow up individually, personally, and with something that shows you were actually listening.
Use what you’ve learned
MIPIM gives you a remarkable window into the mood of global real estate. You’ll hear where the money is moving, which sectors are attracting interest, what’s worrying investors and developers, and where the innovation is happening.
Write up your reflections while they’re fresh and share your insights. Use what you’ve learned to sharpen your BD approach for the rest of the year. Ask yourself: what did I hear that changes how I think about our pipeline, our pitch, our targets?
Think of MIPIM as the start of the journey, not the main event. We’re so excited to see you there.
If you’re heading to MIPIM this year and would like to connect, we’d love to meet. Drop us a note before you go, or come and find us on the ground!
